They are the “dog that runs in rough water.” The Hawaiian Monk Seals are one of the most endangered marine mammals in the world that is native only to Hawaiʻi!

With just around 1,600 left, these endangered seals are true island treasures. They spend their days lounging on beaches and diving for fish, octopus, and crustaceans. If you see one resting on the shore, give it space (at least 50 feet) and admire it from afar — your respect helps protect these adorable creatures! Mahalo

Its long, trailing tentacles can sting even after it’s washed up, so admire it from a safe distance!
